There are numerous articles calling for the use of pastel chalks for the weathering of cars and structures. I went to the art supply store to purchase some and found that there are two types: oil pastels and regular pastels. Can both be used? Is one type better than another? What has been your experience?
I use regular pastel chalks because they are usually cheaper and work very well. I can wa***hem down with wet water to create various streaking effects and it looks great!
Hi,I would strongly persuade you away from oil based chalks due to their waxy content. As mentioned by previous reply, when’ washed’ some great effects can be acheived without trying…/…also, if you don’t like what you’ve done, wash it all off and start again.

I also use regular pastel chalks because like appst03 said they can be washed down with water If you don’t achieve the effects your looking for. and the streaking effects look quite realisitc.
