PATCO Interchange With NJ Transit's ATCRL

In this interlock the PATCO yard track interchanges with NJTransit’s Atlantic City Rail Line through a switch. I also notice it when I ride PATCO. Why does this interchange exist?

Probably for such things as equipment and supply deliveries, etc. Such an “interchange” track is not that unusual between rapid transit and conventional railroad operations.

Equipment delivery, etc. PATCO is standard guage and interstate and thus a common carrier which means nothing I suppose except it can iterchange equipment, take delivery of new, send cars out to be repaired, etc. It is as much a convenience for PATCO as anything…nothing has to be floated or trucked and craned. NYC’s MTA has such connections, as do most all other transit systems of standard guage or compatable guage.

I see, makes sense
