My layout, that has been in the works for about a month now, runs in two rooms, on either side of a wall. I thought of using a mirror to “look around the wall”. But then thought of using a video camera and TV. Check it out.
Paul, that was a great idea. I am getting one to mount on my G scale flatcar, one with sound so I can hear the whistle blowing, and the brakes squealing.
That’s great Paul ! Now you are using cameras around the room, right ? I could use that in or behind my mountain, to see the train back there, maybe.
Thanks, John
John,
I was just over at Radio Shack. They have a little video camera and monitor that is wireless for $70. It would be great for anyone who has a hideen section of track. The camera is not much bigger than a pack of cigaerettes and the monitor has about a 6" screen. I think they are discontinueing them so if anyone is interested go to your local RS and pick one up.
Wow, that’s small enough to mount on a car. Layout looks great, Paul!
Paul ! Thanks again, that would be perfect for my application ! And on the plus side, it would cut down on the " Accident Investigations", when you have a derailment ! [:D] The evidence would flash right before your very eyes, & in my case, out of sight when the train heads for the cement floor back there !! :D]:D]
Seriously though, it would also be good for big layouts & museum layouts, to.
Thanks again Paul !
Doug,
I should have mentioned that a cord is necessary to power the camera, but the connection between camera and monitor is wireless. So the camera has to remain stationary. I was also told that you can hook up several of the cameras to one monitor. So if you have a LARGE layout with many hidden sections you could keep track of all the action, switching from camera to camera.
Very Neat idea, Paul!
hey, what kind of passenger cars were those in the first pitcure? I have a set of Nyc that look just like that!!!
Stilmon - Thats a MTH NYC passenger set.
exactly like mine!
Some good ideas here. My layout is in two rooms connected through a tunnel (cut in the wall) . I have been thinking of installing some sort of tv setup. Looked into some inexpensive security cameras but haven’t bought anything yet.
Not to long ago Home Depot had some mini-cameras that could be powered either by AC or with a battery pack that was included. I think they were only like $60 or so. They didn’t come with a monitor though.
