I was leaving a customer today and did a double take.
On a box was a PC logo…you remember the “worms in love” logo of the Penn Central? Well, it was slightly different, but sure enough it was there. I jotted down the name of the company Pennsy Corp…hmmm PC and later looked it up on the internet. Sure enough Pennsy Corporation is a manufacturer of railcar parts.
I wonder if they purchased the rights to the logo? Or if it is corporately connected to the old Penn Central?
Penn Central is still alive and well. The RAILROAD part of Penn Central did not survive, but the holding company, Penn Central Company, survives, and although it changed its name too American premier Underwriters, essentially is still alive.
It may not be identical, but a good intellectual property lawyer could make a darned good case about it. Perhaps they do have permission to use it, or maybe the logo just lost it’s copywrite protection.
most corporations guard their identity very closely. I know UP got in some hot water on these forums for protecting their’s, but that is standard in corporate world.
