PCB sources?

Hiya.

I’m working on projects and need 1/32" copper-coated PCB (printed circuit board) in 3X5" or 4X6" size. Does anyone have a source? I’ve spent way too much time on Google checking out sites that either have no int’l. shipping, a $50 minimum purchase, and/or $30 shipping to Japan. Talk about frustration!

The projects are mainly for light-units and tender pick-up experiments(N scale). Yeah, I know I can buy the light-units from Atlas but almost $5 for a lil piece of PCB, a bulb/LED, and a diode is outrageous IMVHO.

Any info would be appreciated. Regards,

Tokushima, Japan

Jim - I’m not sure where Tokushima is, but when I was stationed at Misawa FB I was able to find all the hobby supplies I needed off base and met some neat people in the process. Is there an equivalent of a hobby shop or Radio Shack near you where you can inquire? I agree mail order for a circuit board (probably made in China) from the US will be silly. Good luck, J.R.

Jim,

Are you telling us you can’t find blank pcbs in a country that must use thousands of square feet a day making consummer electronics? Anyway, Digikey.com on pages 1552 and 1553 of catalog T061 lists several 1/32 pcbs. Don’t know what shipping to Japan would be though. You might see what you could find in Korea as they use a lot too.

Digikey, Newark, and Mouser all carry .032 single sided copper (1 oz) prototype board material. They also carry etchants and anything else you need to roll your own PC boards. All three companies have great interactive websites (especially Digikey).

Radio Shack? Does anyone really buy electronic parts from them any more? Must be REALLY desperate to shop those high priced and horrible selection…

And why did you search for stuff overseas? Just about any city in the USA with a population over 250,000 has a board house in it; just dig through the Yellow Pages. Heck, you might be able to get either scrap board material from them for cheap, or even contract them to crank out board blanks for you (which run about $1 a square inch, so long as you have usable artwork)

Uh ! Could it be that the man asking the question lives in Japan ???

Maybe I’m a bit dense; but the fact that he mentions “shipping to Japan” and that he is in “Tokushima, Japan” kind of made me think he is not in the US. [swg]

JYMaurer:

Perhaps you can try some of the computer vendors at Akihabara. I remember when I was in Tokyo a few years ago, some of those computer vendors at Akihabara do sell DIY components and parts, and maybe PCBs for projects would be available.

Good luck!

It may be a stretch, but I’m willing to bet that your kid’s IPOD player has some in it. [:D]
