Good sale on these nowdays! If you follow the t1 to it’s specs you see “Recommended Minimum Radius: 18”. Has anyone done this machine on 18" radius and what do you think? Yep, I know it’d look better at 30 or so but 18 is all I gots right now, 22 coming soon, well maybe. and I wouldn’t mind seeing the rods and valve gear doing their thing as best I can accomodate. appreciate your comments.
Yeah you can horse one through 18 inches but you put pressure on the rods.
I ran mine through 22" regularly until it started to develop what I call the click of death in the gear tower.
It is a great engine.
As far as Im concerned no engine larger than 4-6-2’s on anything smaller than 28 inches. Never again.
Repeat after me:
“The larger your curve radius you can provide, the better your steam will run.”
GET IT I especially the rccomend the Chessie Steam (want) and the American Freedom Train (Have) Find a good club with 30 in radius and you can watch all the rods fly you wish. And take a roll of duct tape in case the local rivet counter swoops in.
Thanks for sharing. Might just do it! Sure is a good looking machine!
And Super Glue…Duct Tape may hurt to take off but glueing fingers and lips together tends to really keep them quiet…
I have one and love it. A great runner with nice sound. I really like the detail that PCM put into it. I got mine through Factory Direct Trains.

I got mine from there to and it’s a nice engine. I can highly recomend it and FDT.

I got the FDT marketing email a few days ago and saw the price for the T1. I let it stew for a day and decided it was too good of a deal to pass up. I already have 2111 with DCC/sound and it’s a great loco, so now I have 2113 on its way. Well, I’m modeling the RDG, so what the heck.
Enjoy your engines. Dont load them down too much and lube them when they arrive asap.
I recall mine did about 22 cars on a 3% based on momentum. I might still have a video of it somewhere in the archives if the folks can stand to gag on the non-protoypical WM decaling it had back then.
If you get the ones with sound, knock each of the volume sounds down to about 25-30% of full volumes and you will enjoy the much louder whistle and not get beat down by the CHUFF!
