I’m planning on having an industrial area off of my yard to set out cars for various businesses. The tracks will run between city building and through the street. The only equipment I plan on running in this area is a GE 44-tonner and 40’ cars. Does anyone have experience with the Peco small C80 turnouts (setrack)?
The rest of my layout uses medium and large Peco electrofrog turnouts … just curious if the small turnout (insulfrog) is asking for trouble.
The SetTrack C80 turnouts are really sharp – something like a #2.5 frog. You might be able to pull cars through reliably, but shoving cars (as in switching operations) could be dicey for some combinations of cars and engines.
In your situation, I’d probably use PECO C55 small radius turnouts instead – they are easy to mate to C80, as you probably know.
You could always put together a few SetTrack turnouts and try it out with different combinations of cars to see what you think.
