Peco price hike

I get the newsletter from Green River Hobbies in Geneseo Illinois (that’s on the former Rock Island, now Iowa Interstate main line across Northern Illinois). The newsletter just received has this bit of news:

On an unhappy note, we learned that PECO has announced a price increase on their entire product line, effective immediately. However, we were able to restock on HO and N scale switches and switch machines through one of our distributors at the old prices and will hold the line on theses prices until we have to re-order.

Peco is substantially more expensive today than it was when I made the decision to use Peco for my layout; I am glad I bought most of the turnouts when I did. Now I regret not buying more switch machines.

The price hike is probably related to the U.S. dollar vs. British Pound exchange rate, since Peco products are all from Merry Olde England.

I like Peco’s reliable code 83 “US style” turnouts. Sorry to read that they’re going up in price.

Eh, a extra buck or two don’t matter all supply and demand.

I am 100 percent PECO and I don’t mind paying more for a quality product that I can rely on and order when ever I need more, as I did this week. Most of all it is not manufactured in China. I lived in England for a few years and they stress quality on everything they, themselves, manufacture. Doug

I`ve purchased Micro Engineering turnouts for as little as 16 dollars .

Since my wife is from England - imigrated to marry me in 2011 - we haven’t noticed any sigificant changes in the exchange rate in the past 4-5 years.

I gotta go with riogrande on this. We were in the UK in 2012. If anything, the current exchange rate favors the USD slightly now. Andre
