I’m just trying to figure how far the pin of the Peco PL-10E machine (w/ extended pin) will reach up through from the bottom of the layout plywood. According to the Loy’s Toy’s web site, it sticks up about an inch from the PL-9 mounting plate. Since I’m in N scale, I figure that to go up through the 1/4" plywood, another 1/4" to reach the throwbar, therefore leaving me only enough room to lay 1/2" foam. I’d like to lay at least 1"-1.5" of foam. Does anyone have experience with this machine and thus can tell me if I can lay more than 1/2" foam? Does the pin really only stick up about an inch? Need help!..thanks…you guys are great!..John
I think that’s all the pin sticks up. My advise is buy one and try it. don’t start guessing or you’ll get yourself in trouble.Foams too $$$ to buy the wrong thickness.
The HO machine comes with a sleeve & extention pin. I use CA or epoxy to bond them.You may be able to use the sleeve with a longer rod. cant go too long ,it takes considerable pressure to throw the switch & the rod will flex too much.Try one & experiment.
John;
Go about it the other way: attach the machine to the track, and dig a hole in the foam for the machine. This will work much better, and reduce the forces going into your roadbed.
