Peco Turnout - Reinstalling the Spring

I bought a pair of Peco Insulfrog Code 83 Turnouts to go along with a pair of Peco crossings.

Since I am using Tortoises to power the turnouts, I removed the springs and placed them in the original packaging to save them in case I ever decide to use them or sell the turnouts.

My question is this. How difficult is it to reinstall the springs?

Rich

I’ve never tried it, so if no one else has an answer you might try contacting Peco –

The directions are in the packaging that comes with the turnout. They recommend a screwdriver to hold the spring but I prefer a hobby knife. Sometimes a tiny bit of Goo or other adhesive at one end of the spring can prevent the “booiiiiinnnnggg” effect which users of Kadee #4, #7 or #8 couplers (or those who have replaced the knuckle springs on #5s) are so familiar with.

I have only had to do it once AND it was at my workbench. It could be a bit tricky if the turnout is installed at the far extreme of reachability.

That is one of my biggest faults, as my wife will attest, reading instructions. OK, I will take a look.

I am all too familiar with the Kadee springs. Of course, those are coil springs and the Peco is a V-spring.

Hi Rich,

Not that diff.

Leave them where they are for now, when you are ready and if you’ve lifted them try and get hold of a cellophane bag(I got one about A3 off the boss when she wasn’t looking way back) and refit them in that, it been a god send, since a mate showed me it was the way to replace N Gauge KD internal springs,. Not lost one since.

If still in place, carefully.

Be in touch.
