Hello everyone, I purchased some Atlas flextrack and Peco turnouts and when connected there is a slight difference in rail height.Has anyone experienced this and is there a solution to this problem?
Are they both Code 83, or are the Pecos code 100? If the difference is code 83 vs 100 you can get rail joiners that will help match the rail tops. I had some recycled Peco code 100 turnouts I decided to use in a staging yard along with new code 83 flex track, and the “transition” rail joiners worked just fine.
I ran into that problem on my layout using Peco flextrack and Atlas turnouts where I needed to use Y turnouts, which Peco doesn’t make in code 83. Even though both are code 83 rail, they don’t match up right because the Atlas ties are thicker than Peco’s. So with Atlas flex track and Peco turnouts, the Atlas flex track rail is too high. Just make shims out of paper and put them under the ties of the one that is too low to raise it up.
Another problem I ran into is that Peco rail joiners are thinner than Atlas and won’t fit over Atlas track. Peco track evidentally has a thinner foot than Atlas, so you have to use Atlas rail joiners and squeeze the end in slightly that is going to go over the Peco rail.
I have both code 83 the turnouts are Peco and the flextrack is atlas.
Thanks for the reply cacole , I will try that.
