Where can I find a roster of Penn Central sleepers that were repainted and/or renumbered from PRR/NYC? They (mostly) kept their PRR/NYC names, but I need to match numbers/names to their original names.
Wayner’s “Car Names, Numbers and Consists”, published in the mid-1970’s and probably long out of print, would be a good place to start. At about the same time, RPC Publications put out a yearly passenger car and transit roster that might also help you out. You might be able to find them at swap sessions, flea markets, E-Bay, etc.
I have Wayner’s book, but it was published before all the re-numbering was finished. It is incomplete. Any other ideas?
books stores usely can find your book i saw a t evansville they had books with PC and NYC.
The PCRRHS has a reprinted 1968 passenger car directory which lists nearly every class of passenger car the PC had. I’ve nearly worn out my copy while working on passenger car models. You can order the directory from the PCRRHS over here: http://www.pcrrhs.org/store.html. I should mention that the ex-New Haven cars are not listed, since the NH didn’t become part of PC until later.
Thanks for your help. Wayner’s book was published in 1968-69, but Penn Central kept repainting cars well into 1970, and that’s the time-frame that’s missing, and would also be absent in the 1968 roster from PCRRHS (unless it’s been updated since '68.) I have a consist from October, 1970 that I am trying to trace.
