Pennsylvania announces funding for rail projects

The East Broad Top Railroad in Huntington County also received $2 million toward the acquisition of land and right-of-way, rehabilitation of existing track, construction of new track and construction of a shipping facility in phase one of a project to extend the historic narrow-gauge rail line from Rockhill Furnace to Mount Union.

Amtrak could benefit from staying on the Raton Pass Route because eventually restoration of service on the Denver-Colo Springs-Pueblo La Junta line would make it possible to offer through service from the west coast through Denver to La Junta Kansas City and St. Louis. BNSF could get a local operator to provide freight service on the Raton Pass Line. Would be helpful to know the cost - benefit to maintain the track for Amtrak on the former ATSF Albuquerque - Raton -Trinidad - La Junta - Newton line.

$23 million that the state doesn’t have.

I hope that all the “know-it-all” railfans, who should know better, will note that it is the Delaware & Hudson (America’s oldest transportation company) Railway (in paragraph 6) that is receiving the funding, NOT the Canadian Pacific Railway. The D&H LIVES - and lets not forget it - as CP would like everyone to do!!

Does anyone know what the D&H project will actually do?
