It’s a shame that this locomotive was gutted. It would have been great to have an e8 with HEP.
I’ll laugh if they set all those cars they mentioned into one train behind the E8. Picture it: E8, baggage, sleeper, diner, and… caboose?
do us an aesthetic favor and skip the caboose!!
I guess its better than being scrapped.
How did a beautful E8 end up, in a mall, in Alabama. I wonder if the wedding chapel had an Elvis inpersonator as the preacher. Married by Elvis on a train, a rednecks dream.
I think this whole project is a crying shame.Anything that’s Pennsylvania Railroad should stay in Pennsylvania.
To Pennsy enthusiasts, or others who loved the E8…seeing this motor and its “train” set up seems absurd, possibly insulting to the eye. On the other hand, the mall operator needs some kind of object to attract customers for his tenants- and based on the railroad theme, such a “consist” seemingly does the job. (sorta) Simply put- the mall operator probably has no clue that he’s taking beloved equipment and making them into objects-d’art.
Now, if only the diner served food…
and agreed with all: NO caboose!!

Sad to see equipment like this end up in a mall, especially the E-8 and the passenger cars. The caboose is priceless, but out of place on a passenger train display.

While not ideal, I can think of worse outcomes for the equipment.
Have seen this locomotive & photographed it several years back - they also have a former Southern Railway stainless coach. I also saw & photographed the one in Jackson, MO last year. It was looking pretty bad!
Should we not just be grateful it wasn’t cut up for scrap?
Really? They are going to stuff and mount a viable operational locomotive and put it in a shopping center for the general public who has no idea of railroad history or it’s significance/
This is a real tragedy!
At least it’s not sold for scrap. Maybe someday in the not so distant future, it will go to a deserving museum.
All is not lost and it’s still with us to see and appreciate.
A former wedding chapel! I hope all those marriages are still gliding along in Run 8.
