Fellow Railroad Photographers,
Has anyone had any experience with the Pentax *istDS2 digital camera? It is supposed to take k mount lenses. I have three of them from ranging from 25 mm all the way up to a 250 mm zoom. I would like to get some use out of these lenses if I can but I don’t want to pay a lot of money for a camera body that’s not any good. Thanks in advance for the help.
George
Try looking at http://news.softpedia.com/news/Pentax-Launches-istDS2-6657.shtml I saw some thing in the article about the lenses you were asking about. I too have K mount lenses I would like to use. Good Luck! Greg in Monticello Il.
We have a *istDS that’s about a month old. The lens mount is a KAF bayonet and it was supplied with a KAF2 18-55 mm zoom lens. The manual indicates it can use, among others, KAF and KAF2 lenses, but there is no power zoom option available on the camera (so you have to manually zoom any power zoom lenses).
It also has the ability to be used with an aperture ring, although we have not done that yet.
Up to now, this has been an excellent camera, used for scientific work. Accommodates 52 mm screw-on closeup lenses and Sunpak professional ring flash units. We have run full automatic and full manual with excellent results (it also will do both aperture and shutter priority). Resolution at 6.1 mp is excellent.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for the responses. I am going to look at one of these today I hope.
