People don't learn...

check this video and take a look at the people not paying attention to the train coming.

No wonder the people wern’t concerned–the train was barely moving (although the exhaust made for a nifty image.

I’ve had people come much nearer my train even when I was going 60-70 mph! Just another day at the office.

The type of “bravery” shown by the pedestrian traffic infront of on coming units, seems to be symptomatic of people’s attitudes all over the rest of the world. If you happen to watch videos of trains in Indonesia, India and some of the other Asian countries. The trackworking condition seem to preclude speeds beyond a walk.

Or youy have excelent track conditions, and high train speeds. In those circumstances the Darwin Effect seems to winnow out the slow unobservant pedestrians and drivers. Conversely, in the areas of much slower, low speeds, the knowledge that trains are crawling seems to embolden the pedestrian traffic ( a Bullfighter mentality(?). Might be a good situation to test those airbags on locomotives, that was recently thrashed through this Forum?[:-,]

We have become, as a society, so enamored with labeling we might need to create aother official category of sicide to go along with the other labels now widely used: suicide by car. suicide by truck, suicide by cop, and now maybe suicide by train, well you all get my drift, as the ‘Darwin Awards’ candidates drain the gene pool. Cynical? You Bet!

I believe you could put them in one catergory. “Semi-intentional suicides”.

The bravery award should go to the crew…operating big power and that train over that track…at any speed.
