Unfortunatly, a common problem with Owosso trips is getting a room for the weekend. I called and checked. The Comstock hotel next to the departure point is completly booked for that weekend.
I suppose I should tell the story about how this trip has come about. Last spring I attended a NMRA regional meet at the Lansing,Mi library. I’m a member of the NMRA but seldom have time to go. On this particular night there was a speaker talking about the progress on the Pere Marquette 1225 rebuild. Things were moving along but money was running low. The SRI came up with the idea of leasing the locomotive and train for a 15k donation. I joked with my friend that we should lease the PM 1225 and maybe we would get a cab ride out of the deal. Well, what started out as a joke started to get serious the more I thought about it. Several days passed, I searched the internet for other steam train excursions and found that every trip for this last summer was sold out. It was at that point that I decided I could donate the money with a minimum of risk. My imagine my wifes surprise when I came home and said " Hi Hon ey, I rented The Polar Express!" . Well she probably wondered why I would rent “The Polar Express” when we already have the DVD. Now, Several months later the PM 1225 is well on its way to completing the rebuild. I hear the second hydro test will happen today. So, even if we don’t sell all of our tickets I can take pride in knowing that my business partner George Dines and I along with our company Railyard Productions have helped to bring back Americas most beloved locomotive “The Polar Express” Pere Marquette 1225.
