Interesting video about the “Pere Marquette” streamliner! But, they got one thing wrong about Pere Marquette the man.
The narrator calls him “Pierre” Marquette. No, it was Pere Marquette, as in Father Marquette. He was a French Jesuit missionary sent out to work with the Native American tribes of New France. Here’s his story, and an interesting one it is.
It seems clear that the narrator was never taught French.
He pronounces “Pere” as “peer” while the grave accent on the first “e” means that it should be pronounced “pear”. But I agree that he says “Pierre” once.
Otherwise an interesting description of a train with a complex history…
