Person shoots at passing UP train

This is a story about someone taking potshots at a passing UP in Kansas City, the engineers window was shattered by a bullet. It was near the 59th and Kansas Ave. crossing. As if railroading was not dangerous enough.

OFF WITH THEIR HEADS!!! (just kidding, that would be a little harsh) but seriously…they should get the book thrown at them plus a little more…what the **** where they thinking!!! REALLY PEOPLE!!! Come on’. Shooting at a train?! How easy is that…nail a penny to a tree and try hitting that from a distance if you want to improve accuaracy.

first freeways and now trains… grrrrrr

Strap the bozo to the knuckle and let’s start switching![}:)][}:)][}:)]

Mudchicken, do you think we should “tar and feather him” before
we tie him to the knuckle?! (And I don’t mean to "ruffle YOUR
feathers, either!)

Nothing new here. been going on for years.

I’ve been shot at on an engine more often than I was in Vietnam.

It’s a shame to see the way people like this have no respect or self-regard for others.

It’s too bad that there are nuts out there who have nothing better to do.[:(!]

Welcome to the real world people.

Nothing truer ever said BNSF. The news this morning is reporting that the bullets were probably overspray from a nearby drive by shooting about the same time. Two cars were driving down Kansas Avenue shooting at each other. For some reason Kansas City is very violent this year.

Why would someone shoot at a train. There were rumors that some UP engineers carried guns and would shoot back.

Years ago in LA a conductor was shot at while going under a overpass. He returned fire and shot the guy. He didn’t kill him but the conductor was quite shook up. They had to call a relief crew. They also sent some kind of head doctor out there to deal with the conductor.I heard this transpire over the scanner.

Or more accurately, welcome to the United States, the most gun-loving, paranoid, angry, uptight country on this rock in space, as is well represented by our current administration.

Bear in mind I’m not defending these bozos, but sometimes they shoot at the object (ie, the engine - or better yet, the windows on the engine), with no regard to the fact that there are people involved. As far as they are concerned, they could be shooting out the windows in an abandoned house…

The problem with shooting back is the possibility of hitting something other than your target, especially in built-up areas. On the other hand, if the train shoots back, they might think twice before squeezing one off at a train next time… Or you’ll just p*** them off and they’ll shoot at every train…

Who thinks about shooting trains? Where is the rationality? Honestly…

There is no rationality,go back a reread the entire column.
I realize that it doesn’t make any sense at all,but welcome
to the the “Real World, and the United States”.
Almost anybody can own a weapon here;and those who
aren’t supposed to,have them anyway.

I am not trying to open up a ‘can of worms’',just stating facts.

Riding south on a Saturday Birthday Special Metrolink train from Fullerton to San Juan Capistrano 2 weeks ago, I saw a kid in his late teens throw a rock at the train as it passed. I thought I heard a CRACK from the car forward of me. And this was in Irvine, hardly a “disadvantaged neighborhood”. The thrower’s pal was laughing his head off.

There is a kind of disregard for the property and lives of other people that has been growing apace since the late 1950s, in my opinion. Very discouraging.

I knew a guy who got drunk and when standing near the tracks he stuck his arm out to hit the train. Lesson learned… he got a broke collor bone and was lucky to be alive. Strange thing is that people don’t think be fore they do.
