If you have a string a photos in a post, why do you have to quote it and make it load over and over again. Have pity on the poor folks with dial-up who may have to wait a full minute of loading time for every time you quote.
If you must quote, use your mouse highlight the images and delete. You can still respond to what the person said. If you are just saying nice work, you don’t have to use two screens of scrolling to do so. You don’t even have to hit the quote button for that.
SpaceMouse, Amen, Amen, and Amen! That to me is one of the most annoying things on the forum. This is even more annoying when three or four people do it one after another for the same post and say, “me too!”. It also leads to complaints about the load time of this site. I think that many people who do that either just don’t think about this being a nusiance, or don’t know how to get the photos out of a quote.
You know, I run through a T1, so I’m like greased lightning on the internet, but even at that I don’t think it necessary to quote a picture. I have to say that I agree with you on this one. I feel for those who have to endure long waits for pages to load when all it is are reposted photo’s. Photo’s are good (sometimes). Repeated photo’s are just not necessary though.
What I do is take out the surrounding “[ img ]” and “[ /img ]” tags, but leave the link. Then if they want to see the original photo all they have to do is click it.
Just in the interest of technical accuracy, I don’t think it will increase the load time for dial up users (the picture only gets downloaded once, no matter how many times it’s referenced in a thread).
Other than that, though, I agree completely! It’s a waste of space on the page, and it breaks up the flow of the text.
Probably done by the same people who quote entire messages in their replies, although they may be referring only to one statement or part.
Basic laziness.
Just like those who reply to messages from group e-mails and don’t bother to change the subject although they are ranting about something completely different.
It would be exactly the same as quoting like I just did to your post above - but retaining in the “yellow box” the series of photos you already posted so that they would have to “reload” first in order to read my comment about how wonderful your pics are. (Whew! That was long winded, huh?)
Anyhow, the loading and reloading of pics on dial-up is why I’ve quit viewing or even posting to the Weekend- or Midweek Photo Fun anymore. It just ain’t a “Loto Fun” to view.
I would like to suggest that the Photo Fun thread be limited to one pic and a link to view the rest of your pics. It would save a lot of time for us dial-up users…
That is a great idea! I will start doing that. By the way I have several pets. Three are cats, several are fish, but most are certainly those pesky peeves! [:D]
BTW Notice that I eliminated the quote within the quote when I quoted the quote!
But if it is on page one, page two and three, does it load each time or does it refer back to the previous page. certainly, if you start on page 2, you will have to download the pictures.
Unless you have your browser set to reload Every time you open a page or file (image), it will be stored on your computer and that stored image will be used instead of downloading every time… The length of time between auto reloads can be adjusted depending on your preference and the browser you use… For example, Your sig photo only downloads about once per week to my machine… When you are waiting for multi-quoted photos to download, it may seem like it’s taking forever but in reality, it’s only loading one time…
Yes, it’s still annoying but I’ve given up complaining about it. Does nothing but waste more bandwidth…
