Peter Jenkinson’s lift bridge

awsome X 5

I want a bridge like that!

thanks larry for your 5 x star rating
this section of my railroad is known as my bridges scene… soon this section will get ripped up… the reason is because behind the bridges there are nine tracks used for storage of trains very long trains and when /if something goes wrong it can take a very long time to recover any derailed cars / locos
the bridge scene will be replaced with a yard containing 12 x tracks38 - 45 foot long… please see my other videos on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6K_a_Xnlyq0

very nice

That is teriffic. I’ve never seen a working bridge on video before and yours is outstanding.

Nicely done, great scene. Sorry to hear about the staging, hope the reconstruction is not too painful. I had a similar problem not too long ago, but my scene was not as complete as yours. Was it hard to get such smooth operation out of the connection points of the lift section?

thanks for the comments… the track was laid thru the bridge and after the glue had dried for a week or two it was cut with a dremmel tool cut off wheel it allways sits just right… i did have a little problem when summer came due to the heat here in australia the track expanded and i had to trim it with a dremmel to get it to fit… the bridge usually goes up and down very slowly… perfecty balenced with 8oz of lead…peter

This is a very impressive scene you have created here. Looking forward to seeing the new yard in its place. It looks as if you have a n scale train behind the HO layout? Thanks for the awesome video.

not n scale it is ho scale walthers coal cars approx 2 foot further back thanks peter

I have seen these types of bridges work. You have done an outstanding job. And yes, it was definitely a long train.

That is very good

Has a train ever falling of when the bridge was up?

no… no train has ever been driven off the bridge… the weight on the left would stop the train however a train coming from the right would fall straight into the water… perhaps a dead section of track would be a good idea … however i use a lot of momentum so it would take 5 - 6 feet for the train to stop

I agree with john, that lift bridge scene was fantastic . Nice setup !

Is that the Walthers bascule from the 1990s? Its really too bad its so expensive to get ahold of now. Also, who makes the arch bridges in the backround?

hello chris… thanks for the comments… i was lucky to get the bridge it was very enjoyable to build… the bridges in the background are atlas i believe the large one is a balsa wod model i just copied the atlas bridge and made it twicw the size it cost only a couple of dollars to make however it does look nice and impressive peter
