Model Railroading IS fun! And lots of model railroaders are funny (or at least some of them think they are [:-^]) In previous posts we’ve talked a little bit about things that can help a model railroad seem more “realistic”, this week let’s chuck all that out the window and talk about all the silly things we’ve done. The silly names we have for diners and feed stores, the punny road names we’ve made up for our railroads, the little sound or visual gags placed on or around the layout, and anything else that’s fun or funny about our trains, our layouts, our hobby, our train friends (be nice!) or anything else that’s railroad-related and funny.
So My Question For Today Is:
Ah, screw the question-- just post something funny!
And put up some pictures too, if you got 'em…
As usual, I’m looking forward to your comments-- 'cept this week, they better be funny!
My layout models the fictitious Monon Notyme & Munee Division, in acknowldegement of the circumstances under which it is being constructed. I’ve reserved a building in a yet-to-be-built town for Jim’s Discount Hockey Supply (motto: "Jim’s - a Cheap Skate).
Although I do not particularly like " funny" scenes, I do have a guy at my logging camp in the outhouse. And then there’s some guy who keeps posting about the quality of light, its color and ambiance, contemplating its essence and debating the nature of the socket, but never actually bothering to screw it in… [:-^]
I don’t have any funny scenes on my layout yet, but I am planning on including a HO-scale TARDIS and some figures done up to look like a certain Time Lord and his friends.
I can offer up a little bit of humour:
Steam Locomotive: $325
Ready To Run rolling stock: $30/pop
The satisfaction of having a working model railroad: Priceless.
There are some things money can’t buy. For everything else, there’s:
Lots of funny names associated with my layout- but no crazy stuff lettered on any rolling stock, including my layout name. For 30 years, I have used the name “Santa Vaca” for my N scale version(s) of the
So many stations and towns had names in Spanish with some kind of a religious connotation. = holy faith. = Saint James. = holy cross. And so on. I thought of a real town in California-- Victorville in the desert. And that reminded me of , where there was some kind of prison disturbance. And the name Santa Vaca came. It means Sacred Cow, or Saint Cow, or Holy Cow! &n
