Philosophy Friday -- Daphie and Soux Contraire

“Daphie and Soux Contraire”

Model Railroading IS fun! And lots of model railroaders are funny (or at least some of them think they are [:-^]) In previous posts we’ve talked a little bit about things that can help a model railroad seem more “realistic”, this week let’s chuck all that out the window and talk about all the silly things we’ve done. The silly names we have for diners and feed stores, the punny road names we’ve made up for our railroads, the little sound or visual gags placed on or around the layout, and anything else that’s fun or funny about our trains, our layouts, our hobby, our train friends (be nice!) or anything else that’s railroad-related and funny.

So My Question For Today Is:

Ah, screw the question-- just post something funny!

And put up some pictures too, if you got 'em…

As usual, I’m looking forward to your comments-- 'cept this week, they better be funny!

How many Model Railroaders does it take to change a lightbulb?

It depends on what kind of bulb… is it scratchbuilt, kitbashed, or ready-to-run ???

My layout models the fictitious Monon Notyme & Munee Division, in acknowldegement of the circumstances under which it is being constructed. I’ve reserved a building in a yet-to-be-built town for Jim’s Discount Hockey Supply (motto: "Jim’s - a Cheap Skate).

How many programmers does it take to change a lightbulb?

They can’t do it, its a hardware problem.

To reduce power consumption and extend unit life, why not use LEDs instead?

The Strumpet Brewery is one of the larger employers in Moose Bay. As they say, “Nothing goes down like a Strumpet…”

Someone is about to meet with an accident in the subway.

I think this picture is “excellent.”

Believe it or not, you can actually purchase RTR jokes:

Can any one identify this guy who just left the building?

Why did the C++ programmer’s girlfriend leave him?

He kept treating her like an object…

Why did the C++ programmer poison his rich wife?

So he could inherit her properties…

Sucked Off at the Platform

Yeah, but what a way to go… [(-D]

Yup, here’s another one! [:D]

Let’s see then…

Ask the question on a forum.

Receive 12 answers stating to send it back.

Receive 10 answers advising brand X bulbs is junk…

Receive 3 answers stating you should have bought it at your LHS and not on line.

Receive 7 answers stating with DCC you wouldn’t need the bulb.

Receive 14 answers stating the best ladder to buy .

Receive 7 answers moaning about the cost of the ladder because its RTR.

Now what was the question?

Although I do not particularly like " funny" scenes, I do have a guy at my logging camp in the outhouse. I also have a hidden pinup wall in my sawmill because up until recently, this was very prototypical. I know because was a fire protection engineer for a large forest products company and have inspected quite a few logging operations over the years. The closest thing to humor on my layout is my Billy Beer joint. Peter Smith, Memphis

For those modeling the 1800’s it’s lantern. [swg]

Enjoy

Here’s a little group of “railfans” visiting on my previous layout:

Should we tell him there’s an easier way to catch a train?

Maybe he should try a different breed of Horse, say the non-iron variety.

Thank You, I’ll be here all night. Try the Veal!

Is the lightbulb DCC compatible?

You left out 3 answers stating that while you can screw the bulb into the socket and it will receive the power, your light switch will not activate the bulb.

That thar train is missin’ its cow-poke catcher!

And then there’s some guy who keeps posting about the quality of light, its color and ambiance, contemplating its essence and debating the nature of the socket, but never actually bothering to screw it in… [:-^]

Well,

I don’t have any funny scenes on my layout yet, but I am planning on including a HO-scale TARDIS and some figures done up to look like a certain Time Lord and his friends.

I can offer up a little bit of humour:

Steam Locomotive: $325

Ready To Run rolling stock: $30/pop

The satisfaction of having a working model railroad: Priceless.

There are some things money can’t buy. For everything else, there’s:

(Doctor Who fans should get this one)

Lots of funny names associated with my layout- but no crazy stuff lettered on any rolling stock, including my layout name. For 30 years, I have used the name “Santa Vaca” for my N scale version(s) of the

So many stations and towns had names in Spanish with some kind of a religious connotation. = holy faith. = Saint James. = holy cross. And so on. I thought of a real town in California-- Victorville in the desert. And that reminded me of , where there was some kind of prison disturbance. And the name Santa Vaca came. It means Sacred Cow, or Saint Cow, or Holy Cow! &n
