Phoenix mayor: Triple the light rail system

Mr. Jene is exactly right. It continues to be astonishing that the city of MKE, renowned not only for beer, but for what might be the finest and most innovative high-speed, for its time, locos and rolling stock (who would not give a bundle for a beavertail?). Funny thing is, you can drive around MKE on the “freeway” and it follows the routes of “Speedrail”…which will, after much agony, be relaid as mass-transit. I hope to live so long.

Cool! Local tax funds local transit with the voter’s approval.

More cities need light rail to reduce greenhouse emissions. Wish Jacksonville, Fl. would begin " light rail".

Milwaukee should get off their dead behinds as well. The transportation system here is just awful.

This is good news but why oh why can’t you get to Phoenix on Amtrak? It’s a REAL hassle to get to Phoenix from little Maricopa.

Herod, the “west end”(from Wellton to Buckeye) has been closed since the 90’s when Amtrak went in the ditch account of vandalism. It is dark territory. This is when they built the Maricopa station.Last year the UP high-railed the whole piece of track and determined that a few bridges needed replacing.I understand that there is actually money in the budget this year for them. All the defect detectors have been brought up to spec with in the last “few years”.Also,UP just tripled the size of it MOW building in Wellton. So what does this mean?Who knows-It’s the UP.

When I lived in Mesa in the late 80’s the Superstition Freeway was choked at busy times but moved freely outside these periods. Not too hard to get around on the block roads either most of the time. Visiting only about 5 years later the SF was choked all day and the block roads far slower. I dread to think what its like now!! You can’t just keep building roads - people need to live somewhere in relative peace. All these big and growing conurbations are going to need rail systems to avoid gridlock - get on with it.

PS Few weeks spent last fall in the Bay area (Ca). An unholy mess transport wise. Lessons to be avoided!?

This article is about Phoenix not Milwaukee. So why even bring up that subject.
