The loss of CMR from the bridge to Geraldine is a railfan nightmare of mammoth proportions. Several years ago, Milwaukee Road Historical Association, in conjunction with CMR, ran an excursion the full length, an historic ride showing the true beauty of Montana in between the mountain ranges. Carla and her crew put on a wonderful show, and it would be a true loss if the road cannot be restored. As with so many sites, much of this magnificent area is only viewable from the tracks. My hope is that the trains will roll once again.
With many lines being abandoned, the railroads and the Gov’t need to wake up to the fact that rail traffic is increasing and many of the lines that are lost could have been used today. Hopefully, the CMR will aquire the funds needed to repair and upgrade or another line will be lost.
