a tunnel and abandoned rock quary
Looks like you’ve got a good start. Do you have a track plan to post? Might help in envisioning the final result.

Looks good. I wish mine had more scenery. But I can’t do anything to it now cause in about a year im moving to San Diego
my layout is similar and here’s what i did.
i raised the track about 2 feet before it entered the tunnel which is also raised. i also put aluminum foil in the tunnel for the reflection and it’s cool. at the beginning of the grade change i had a road cross it. i put signs and lights there and have two cars, autos, waiting to cross. the road goes into the city on the left of the track.
i spent a lot of time on the city because i like the structures and scenery. i have one main street and two cross streets. i have a city park, main street, fire and movie house and apts. i am putting in a city hall and hospital somewhere in this kit and kaboodle.
to the left of the city, the tunnel is to the right, i have a transition area that has a church, graveyard, school and school yard. then some green open space and a housing development. i still have room on the end, or last third of the board and i’m thinking of an industrial zone. at the end where i’m thinking of this zone, i have a mountain on the edge of the board next to the track that then levels off to woods.
after the train comes out of the track and goes down to regular grade, i had a left turnout that runs parallel, kind of, to the oval and then starts up over a bridge that seems to go over the transition area and then comes down behind the city and end up again on the other side of the oval from where it started.
of course the curent is going the opposite way when the train tries to get back on the oval and even though i’ve used plastic connectors, i have trouble getting it to go. i’ll fix that one day.
