Photo Where Is It? (SOLVED)

Courtesy of MC, here’s another take on “Photo Where Was It?”

Hint #1 : Somehow directly related to the cover photo of the June 2007 Trains.

I believe this is on that portion of the Santa Fe line between Colorado Springs and Palmer Lake that was taken up in the early 1970’s at the request of the City of Colorado Springs. Santa Fe began running over the Rio Grande and Colorado Springs was able to eliminate many street crossings.

This site may be just south of Baptist Road and west of I-25 and adjacent to the Air Force Academy.

Nope

(That has trees and relief and people all over it)

Hint # 2: This line came late, went through 3 states and never got to where it was going.

sounds like something the Rock would do

The Santa Fe Colmor Cutoff, perhaps between Boise City and Clayton, or between Mt. Dora and Farley, NM

" On the cover Cimarron Valley GP30 leaves Dodge City Kan., on March 30,2004"

SOLVED

Made it a little too easy, too quick… Randy wasn’t far off as the Rock was initially involved (But they had designs on Liberal to Trinidad… http://www.atsfrr.com/resources/burton/colmor.htm )…and the first 3.2 miles of the CV Sub were on shared CRIP R/W on CRIP’s Dodge City to Bucklin line that recently failed as a shortline (again)…

The photo is at the Farley end of the railroad looking back at Mt. Dora and Dodge City …Clayton to Boise City is a lot harder to retrace.

Had the Boise City Terminal ever been built out, North Platte would have had a serious competitor. Instead, you got a lot of broken dreams and failed ambitions. (And the BM&E/MKT would still be out there too)

Chalk one up for the Lizzard scorcher…(cook on the dining car)
