We haven’t done one of these in awhile, so I thought that I’d post a shot:
No clues for starters. I’ll be up for a little while longer, but will be headed to bed pretty soon. So I may not get around to answering guesses until tomorrow morning.
Right state, Carl. Right route. Wrong area, though.
(Sorry, I guess I should have made myself more clear that while the location was somewhere between the Rockies and Chicago, it didn’t necessarily have to be on a route that bridged those two points)
Just a guess, but is that the Z-DENCHI/CHIDEN? That is the only BNSF train on the transcon i’ve ever seen hauling Evergreen and Italia i/e containers. They usually go on the UP.
Well, I guessed the wrong half of the right route–kind of narrows it down! However, I’m just not familiar enough with BNSF out that way to try again. It can’t be too far west of Rochelle, though–I don’t think the terrain would look too much like that beyond Oregon (the community, not the state!).
Well, I must be close. I have never driven on the road between White Pines Park and Polo, but on TerraServer, I see a passing siding west of White Pines just past Lowell Park Road.
Bingo! I should know the name of the siding, but can’t think of it offhand. Anybody familiar with the Aurora Sub know the name?
A little story about this siding: On one of our annual White Pines Trips (we go there every year), I caught a westbound intermodal with a bunch of power in this siding one evening. When he got clearance, I headed west, intending to catch the train in Polo or something. I have never seen a train accelerate like that! He was ahead of me before I got to the slower speed zones just outside of Polo, so there was no chance I was ever going to catch him again.
Impressive experience, but I still would’ve liked another shot! The light was gorgeous!
