photographs for backdrops

We´re a round robin group of 4 working on a new HO/HOn3 layout situated from the plains to the Colorado rugged mountains and high sierras of California. The available space for this railroad is aproximately 50 * 25 ` and will have 4 L-girdered peninsulas covered with hardshell. Total lenght of mainline is about 200 yards running alongside 3 walls and through the peninsulas.
We´ll make backdrops using high resolution photographs of distance mountains blended together and fullcolor printed at appropriate lenght, 24" width. Who can help us with hi-res pictures?
Thanks a lot,
Maarten & friends

Maarten, I don’t quite understand. Are you looking for hi-res photos of this area, or for advice of where to send digital files or negatives that you already have to be printed?
Jarrell

Maarten,

For what you are going to spend to have the photos processed and printed onto a suitable material 24" in width and considering the work you are going to have to do to match the various images, you might very well be better off with some of the excellent commercial backdrops available e.g. Backdrop Warehouse and others. Although they are too expensive for my budget, they do have the advantage of being accurate, tested, and proven in numerous applications. They also come printed on a sturdy product , i.e. canvas, without seams, which is a process you are not likely to have access to. There is also an excellent video from Green Frog Productions on how to use photo backdrops and blend them into the foreground scenery. Just something to think about … Good luck.

Yes we know all of these commercial backdrops, but after revieuwing all of these do´nt fit. Therefore we´ll print the backdrops ourself at suitable lenght for the peninsulabackdrops.
Overhere there are also several USA-style backdrops available from European distributors. Same expensivity, same not-suitable.

So high resolution photographs are very welcome to make our own and we know how to blend these together.
