Photos from Cheyenne

So as promised, here are some shots from Cheyenne with Chad. The overcast skies inspired me to convert everything to B&W. They’re not great shots, but it was still fun to meet Chad and his Dad. Plus, we saw a LOT of trains. Lot’s of GEVO’s and a good smattering of ACe’s, too (we don’t see a lot of either in Denver).

Anyways, enough of my babbling, here’s the shots. Again, sorry they aren’t the greatest:

I liked em’ all but I would have to say my favorite is the last one. Are both of those moving or is the outside train passing the pig.

[wow] VERY NICE.

Chris, your “not great” shots beat mine any day. Nearly every one of them is classy.

Thanks for posting the great shots. Oh, yeah, and thanks for posting the other ones too![swg]

…I like your B/W shots Chris…Just seems interesting to see them occasionally…and they still look good.

I wonder…I may have passed over one of those sets of tracks 50 some years ago heading west to do some required “work” for Uncle Sam in the far east…I do remember passing through Cheyenne as I was in a vestibule at a half door opening and noted the strong smell of fresh cut hay…At least that’s what it seemed to be…Can almost still smell it as I think about it…A beautiful moon lit evening…

Do I remember a similar photo {night shot color}, of the depot that you may have posted here in the past…

…PS:

Isn’t that a similar track inspection vehicle like was posted in current TRAINS mag…?

Chris:

You really got some good shots - cloudy or not. It all looks so familiar. Did you fellows get up to Sherman?

Paul

Hmmm I was supposed to hear from them this afternnon or thisevening, but its almost 10 and still nothing… Hope they are Ok… Did you guys make it down to the staem shop?

Oh Chris!!! In my frazzle last night I totally forgot to tell you the your pics are AWESOME!!! Nice work!!

Still haven’t heard anything from Chad though…

Hello All,

Thanks as always for the kind words (and sorry about my tardy response!). Truth be told, after looking at the shots some more, the only one I really like is the shot of the crew change. Granted some are more documentary than “artistic,” (Rotary Train, Rail Geometry Car, etc.)

Anyways, as per your questions:

Railfan: Only the train in the foreground is moving. Since we had such dark dreary skies, I was playing around with some panning shots (it’s always good to get some practice in on those tough buggers). Believe it or not, the train is barely moving in that shot. It’s just so dark that at ISO 100, I was shooting around 1/6th of a second somewhere between f11 and f16. (I can look at the EXIF data if anyone needs to know the exact exposure).

Allan: Thanks for the kind words.

Brian: You are far too kind! Your shots are excellent, and I always look forward to seeing them!

Datafever: Thanks for the kind words. I’m not sure what other shots you were talking about, but your welcome.

Quentin: You have an excellent memory! I have posted a couple shots from Cheyenne here before. They’re much better though than these (of course the day was better, and they were night shots which I tend to prefer). Here’s my two favs from that outing:

I’m not sure if that was the same Geometry car or not…I’ll check it out tonight.

Paul: Thanks!

RJ: I don’t think Chad had any plans really cemented, but he did have one option that he was hoping to have open up. Still…that is odd that they didn’t call you. Unfortunately, we did not get a chance to head down by all the steam stuff. Sometime I would like to check it out, though. Thanks for the second post, too!

Great shots as always Chris.

RJ, Sorry about not calling. My phone just didn’t have coverage in that area. The day I was suppose to stop turned out to be a long one and we just wanted to get to our room in Evanston. We fought blizzard conditions all day and were pretty burned out. By the time we made Rock Springs the weather was getting better but we just wanted to get off the road for the day. Mabee next time. Hopefully we will be able to better plan a trip next year to meet more forum members.

…Yes those are beautiful night shots to my eyes Chris…Loaded with clearness and ambience.
