Just wanted to post some photos of my Amtrak trip to Florida

A shot of the Lounge car on Amtrak “City of New Orleans” south bound traveling toward New Orleans on April 6, 2004.

Amtrak train #59 getting a rest in New Orleans after the 900 mile trip from Chicago. This was on April 6, 2004, just hours after we had passed sister train #58 north bound when train #58 derailed near Jackson MS. Our hearts went out to those passengers as we had just traveled over the same trackage on train #59.

An Amtrak Locomotive sits in New Orleans train station waiting its next assignment. (I have not had a chance to key this locomotive out in my “Field Guide to North American Locomotives”, this looks like a GE with the radiator flares in back, but not sure which model??)
Oh, I forgot to add these, thanks for reminding me macguy!!

This is a shot of the Seminole Gulf Tourist train. They run a push/pull configuration with this GP9? and an F unit on the other end. It looked like the geep was doing all the work though!!

This is the F unit on the other end of this train. Seminole Gulf also operates freight service in this southwest part of Florida, near Fort Myers.
Thanks for sharing, do you have anymore? [:)]
…Enjoyed your photos…Lounge car looks comfortable…Thanks for sharing.
Nice photos how did you get from new orleans to florida sunset limited?
Since all the grills on the F unit are blanked over,I think it is a non powered cab unit, maybe from the Long Island.Great pictures!!!
Great pictures, but how do you insert pictures for your posts? I want to post one and haven’t quite figured it out yet and don’t want to screw it up![:I]
BRF…check at the bottom of this screen and find “Show Forum Code”…Click and look over for some data on posting photos.
BRF…Just noticed your location of being near Saluda Grade…Have visited several times in recent years. What is the latest on the “embargoed” track…? Is it all still intact…? Any update you can tell us… about that route.
Thanks about the pictures. I’ll discuss Saluda in a new forum.
Yes, we took a very late Sunset Limited to Orlando (actually Sanford, FL where the Amtrak service area is. The late train made it necessary to stop early for the return trip to L.A. the next day). Amtrak bused us from Sanford to Orlando and we caught the Silver Star to Ft. Lauderdale. On the way back we took the Silver Meteor to Jacksonville and boarded the Sunset Limited in Jacksonville. whew!!!
