Well, why not see if this can be fixed in software? That’s the modern way to do anything these days. I’ve even got a friend that gets his heart tuned-up every now and then.
Bergie & Company - Who is the vendor for the forum software? It would seem that they should be able to add a switch, settable by each user individually, that would toggle the graphic signature files on and off. That way, each user could decide for him/herself whether or not to receive signature pictures. Since the system already contains both Text and Graphic signature areas, I wouldn’t be surprised if this feature is already there. It might just need to be enabled in the user profiles.
EDIT: It IS already there! Thanks, Overdurff! I put a bit more info below for anyone who is having trouble doing this.
I like the results of this! I want a better connection, and I can afford it, all I need is my dad to give the OK! And I like those pictures, no matter how long they take to load!
check out if you have SBC and Yahoo
its dsl for $15
I pay $100 a month here at work
ouch no dsl for me
that a good idea to have a switch like no frames
all it took was a light to be shined on the problem aeria

OUCH!!![:0] That’s terrible. I have adsl from Telus & I only pay CDN. $24.95 per month I could’nt afford that kind of ripoff rates.

Windows98 realy sucks.
Allan.
As Overdurff has pointed out, you already can simply disable forum signatures! Just go up to “Update Profile,” enter your password, and find the line that says:
Do you wi***o view members signatures when reading posts?
Set it to “Yes - Text Only” or “No” and all the signature pictures will go away.
I have DSL and would never go back to snail pace on the internet again. I bucked at the added cost (now $29, only $7 more) but you really see what you’re missing without it. Even though I could turn off signatures, I do get additional information from other’s pictures, so I leave it ON for now. And yes I used to hate the slow loading time for pictures on dial-up.

I have DSL but a old computer…Cox 47
add ram that helps the most

Adding RAM works wonders, and a newer operating system can improve performance as well. But, you may need to upgrade the amount of RAM in your computer to just run the OS, so you would need to buy even more RAM.
I only have 512MB of RAM, and am thinking about upgrading to at least 1GB.[8D]
Yep, the cheapest and quickest way to bump up a computer is to add RAM. However, it will not compensate for a really old, slow computer. I currently have 2 Gigs of RAM in my G5. Its a couple of years old now and can be upgraded to 8 GIGs. That said, even the fastest computer will not work online faster than the connection you have. If it is the computer that is holding you back, it is REALLY time to upgrade! LOL [:D]
I got win 98 and 128 mb of ram and 400mhz processor connection is roadrunner pages load pretty quick for me so i can’t complain
