Picked up a new Athearn ATSF GP60M last night

I picked up a new Athearn ATSF Warbonnet GP60M last night at the local hobby shop. All I can say is Athearn really outdid themselves for a RTR level model. Blackened see thru roof fans, brass air horn, pilot plow ect, correct later style Blomberg M style trucks ect. The shop had both road numbers in stock, I bought one and put the other in layaway till I get paid again. I plan to install sound/dcc in the engine and light up the factory mounted ditch lights. They appear to be the same ones used on the Genesis engines that are lighted so it shouldnt be to difficult to add the proper 1.5vt bulbs and light them up. One thing good about the local hobby shop, they have all the newest from Athearn in stock and discounted 20% off everyday. I highly recommend The Train Exchange in Kokomo, Indiana. If your passing thru, its worth your time to stop in the shop but please check thier website for hours of operation as the owner still teaches school. Cheers Mike and Michele T

Pics tonight after I take a few running at the local club. Should look good on the front of a stack train! Mike

Sure a far cry from “CLIMAX POWER”

What do you say ???

Johnboy out…

Old screen name, but I just keep it like it is. I still like Climax geard logging engines. The ATSF units make good run thru power on my BN layout. Mike

I love the GP60Ms. I have 2 Ms and a cabless booster version from a previous run. They run very quietly and pull well.

I spent the time to remove the ditch lights, drill out the castings as they are not drilled all the way thru, although they are hollow behind the lense. While the factory set up doesnt put out enough power to light both the headlights and the ditch lights, the sound decoder I will be installing soon will. Mike
