pics of layout area

hi all. its me the guy with no space and 15" track! her are some pics of my room. tell me wut you think. it will soon be a layout of some type.

…above is a pic of my room…

…and another…

…desk space…

…Santa Fe GP-40…

…consist so far…

well i’ve heard of putting a layout under the bad , but you’ve given that a whole new meaning ! great idea to create space for a layout

I believe you said you had to keep about half that area clear for homework?? If so that is going to complicate matters quite a bit. One idea (my daughters) is to add a side table if there is room. Make the desk an L shape and use one section for homework and the other for train.

If you can use the existing space for a train you can use the loop you have and either add a yard for switching, or a town for scenery. Depends on your interest.

Keep up your studies and maybe you can talk them out of the whole garage later! [8D]

Here’s an idea for you to consider: get a piece of plywood that will fit within the perimeter of your desktop. Use the plywood for the base of your layout and rig a set of pulleys to the underside of your bed above so you can raise the entire layout up and out of the way to do homework. When you want to run your trains, lower the layout down onto the desktop. That way, mom and dad are happy because you still have a place to study, and you’re happy because you have a dedicated place for your trains to run.

well as im typing this im taking a break from homework…right now im on the bed on the floor(left side). my parents agreed to let me use the whole desk for a layout and ican do home work on my bed.
HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!

Why not ask them for a tablemate (http://www.tablemate.com/scripts/cgiip.exe/WService=tablemate/itemdetl.html?item=4-TBL2-1227&src=ADW8000) ? That way you’ll have a hard surface to write on while you sit on your bed. Not too bad for only $30 (+ $10 shipping). You might even find it at a local store and save on the shipping.

Have to say I admire you for getting started … no matter the circumstances. Goes with that quote you have in your bio.

Congradulations and stay aboard [:D]

My first layout was on an old boxspring (plywood surface in place of the mattress). I called the railroad the Beddington & Winslow. Keep going - it brings back good memories. Mike (Albuquerque, NM)

Try to talk you parents into allowing a drop leaf table at the foot of the bed. It appears that a piece of 3/4" ply the width of the bed and say 24" wide could be hindged to the rail near the powerpack. When not in use, just drop it down and out of the way. A plus to this is, when not used for doing homework, it would make one great work table.

hey im back again with progress. pictures below!

above is two pics of Santa Fe #3501 over the grade crossing

homemade industrial trash sharing a gondola with axles.

here is the caboose whose maker is from my mom’s hometown…i had to get it.

this is where i get the axles in the gondola from. its a kit that only came with horn hook couplers. as you can see i have knuckle couplers, so iam going to the hobby store on sun. to get kadee wutever…lol

here is an overview of the layout so far. the green stuff s ready gras from woodland scenics.

and this is the wood chip hopper ive talked about. if any one wants it im selling it on eBay. you can buy it for $16.20 or bid satrting at $10.00.

right now i have a simple oval. i may be going to my LHS on sunday after church. from allowance and cat sitting and money i have made i will have $45. i want to make my layout more exciting but not to complicated. what should i get, track, scenery, rolling stock…?

wut do you no im back with more pics once again…

overview of everything… and yes that is a 50’ in the back!!! the amazing part is that it doesnt make contact with any thing(except the rails)

i got another gp-40 with a different road number.

40’ BN hi-cube. at first it looks kinda wierd.

my 44-ton switcher sitting on the siding. im not getting dcc, : - (, but i have disconnected the rail joiners so power does not go to last piece of track in the siding. storage for my locos.

and finally going trackside…

right now im a pretty happy guy.

I see you’re using that readymat stuff made WS. You’re gonna need a alot of money if you want all that scenery stuff, track, ballast, maybe buildings. I’ve spent over $300 on my layout. Nice layout so far.
