Pics of my layout progress

Hello everyone!! Here are some pics pf my layout progress. This is based on the Atlas Great Eastern Trunk. I extended it another 4 feet, so know it sits on 4X12 bench work by Mianne. The structures need to be painted , but it will be awhile before i get to that. You can see a turnout on one side where I plan to extend the layout with L shaped bench work at some point. Need to buy some graph paper to plan out the track plan for that.

I didn’t use cork roadbed because I like the The sound of the trains going over the track more with out the use of roadbed. Most of the layout is going to be a piggyback trailer operation since I like trucks and trains I am combing the two. I tested the track for derailments as I laid each section down and all is good. I need to buy some Caboose Industries ground throws for the turn outs. If I can just stop spending money on Locomotives, I just might be able to finish it at some point.

Any thoughts or imput will be appreciated. Thanks!! John

Nice. Simple and not over-done. Keep up the good work.

I think your gonna have years of Enjoyment with this layout , simple yet interesting Would like to see how you manage your scenery and hopefully you’ll post more updates , good luck

John

Thanks! I plan on adding a guard shack and some fencing for a trailer storage lot. Need to add pavement effects, just trying to figure out what method I want to use.

I agree with SpaceMouse above, you have a nice working layout, not overdone or crowded and it’s expandable should you acquie the needed space. Keep us posted please.

John,

Hi, your layout looks great, thanks for sharing the photo’s. I too am using the Mianne benchwork, and loving how easy it went together.

Nice start. Looking forward to more pictures as you progress.

I would be interested in seeing and reading about your benchwork and how you put that together.

Nice start and good looking SPs… Setting?

Thanks everyone. Going to start on the paved sections this coming weekend. tjerrard, The bench work is a kit you can buy from Mianne at www.miannebenchwork.com . The kits go together easily with lock cams and instructions and diagrams are simple to understand.

Tom, The Mianne benchwork is a decent system http://miannebenchwork.com/default.htm

My club uses a more traditional approach, but the Mianne is a quality product and may suit your needs.

After seeing a tip in the Woodland scenic video where they tell you to put 2 pencils through styrofoam about 3 inches apart to draw a evenly spaced road, I thought I give it a go! I guess the piece of foam I used was not thick enough because the pencils would shift creating a uneven spaced outline. I found a piece of would about 3 inches wide and duct tape two pencils to the wood, should stay in place now! I will give it another go this weekend. I will be using the Woodland Scenics Smooth it and top coats for the roads.

Goto lowes’s and get a couple of there cheap yard sticks and a couple of their free paint stirrers…

then drill holes that are a snug fit for the pencils at the right widths either tape them up or glue them in place.

i tried a set of the special wood pencils and they were very hard to sharpen and the tips kept falling out went to staples and bought a couple of old fashioned china markers and they work great on foam.

the yardsticks work great for drawing radius marks.

Looking good!

Hello everyone,

Just a little update. I havn’t had to much time to do anything on the layout, but I did plan out an extension for the existing 4x12 benchwork on Cadrail and then forwarded it to Mianne benchwork. This is what they came up with.
