Picture Software

Looking for software that will assist for re-sizing of pictures so that they may be added to emails and other items… (posting pictures of layout building here in Model Railroading) There was a topic in here about two months ago on this subject and I can not locate that topic. Would really love to show the progress of what has been done and have comments on the layout.

Adobe Photoshop works extremely well for this purpose. You don’t have to buy the latest one which would be expensive. 3.0 is very adaquate for the purpose and that is frequently available on Ebay.

I’m a programmer and just retired from servicing computers so I’m pretty familar with most products.

This is currently up on Ebay:

I’m using Adobe PhotoShop Essentials. It’s a few years old. Current product offering is version 4.0

I just downloaded some software called IrfanView off of www.download.com.
I have only used it a little bit but I got it for the specific purpose of downsizing pics to fit into email and onto myspace. The best part is its shareware hence no cost.

I haven’t tried it yet myself but I was told by a friend that Picasa from google is good, and it’s free. Here’s the link.

I use Lexmark Photo-editor, which came with my computer/printer.

We use:
Corel Photo paint
Adobe Photoshop Pro
Microsoft Picture it
and a cheap one that came free on the computer HP photomate
The cheap one works the best for that application according to my wife who does a LOT of emails.

I use Photoshop CE only because my ex gave me a copy she got for free at work. It is too expensive for what I need. IRFanview is a very good free choice. I’ve used it some and been happy with the results. (depending on your needs)

If you own Microsoft Office 2003, then look to see if your version has Microsoft Office Picture Manager. This program allows you to easily fix and resize pictures.

If you don’t have this program, and if you know your way around a computer, then you might want to download the opensource program GIMP for free. You can download it from http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/.
