wow some amazing modelling there . i saw a couple of sawmills that must have excited you chip

Let me say that I at this point cannot achieve what those guys did. That said, the first saw mill was way too tattered for my taste. The biggest fear in the mills was fire and that place was a fire trap. The second one, although similar construction was better designed from a mill point of view.

I have no desire to model the inside of a mill. Mine will be just the outside and split and mirrored. It will have to be scratch built, but should be easy enough.

Wow, those models are awesome, and there is severe ownination(Excuse the term) when compared to my models.

Chip;

Actually that first mill is more accurate, at least for the mills that were down this way, than the second one. Sawmills down here ran 24/7 and there would be a huge build up of sawdust, chips and whatever, even with a disposal unit. Since the sawmill was a temporary structure anyway, why try to build it neat and tidy when in 6 months it’ll be gone? All you really wanted to do was protect the machinery from the elements.

In fact I have a BIG concern with the second one. How many of you noticed there was no counter bracing between the trusses? That building is in definite danger of collapse!

Scott Matherly, Bob Beaty, Malcolm Sokol, and Larry Smith are all in my club. http://wreckingcrew.railfan.net Scott and Malcolm are new to modeling, less than 4 years each, and has learned a lot from the others guys. (UNDERSTATEMENT!!!). In addition to the regular NMRA awards, several guys got special awards from manufacturers.

You should be able to build a model of the Starry Eyed Mattress Company soon. One of the model manufactures (AMB?) or another one purchased the rights to make it.

Paul Voelker, who took all the pix, is also our Region newspaper editor. He puts out two versions of our paper. He publishes for mailing one version for those members not online, and another version, online, in full color, with generally 10-20 more pages of pix and articles. What he’s done so far as our editor can be seen at; http://www.ser-nmra.org
