Hi guys,
I’m pretty tired now from driving most of the day…(my RV is a rolling billboard and hard to keep in the lane with such strong crosswinds) but just got back from the train show in New Braunfels Texas and it was a good one…here’s some pics from a Corpus Christi Model railroad club. Also, got to climb all over a 1:1 scale UP AC 4400 that was at the show a block from the civic center…chuck
this is one of the most detailed refineries i’ve ever seen…
Chuck, we must of crossed paths again. Wife and I were there about 10:30. We did that drive you did in January down to the show in Houston. So, I know how beat you were.
This is my second year to the show in New Braunfels. I went over to the depot in downtown and caught these pics.
West is to the left.
Couple of 1000ft or so west from the depot is where the old KATY crossed the MP. I was lucky here. Heard it coming and got into position.
Thanks for the pics. NB is my hometown and I was involved with that club when I was younger. That is a great group of guys. The New Braunfels Civic Center is also a great venue for the shows. It is only a couple of hundred yards from the UP (ex I&GN) mainline.
I just moved to New Braunfels a year ago…this is the second train show I went to. Wish I knew they parked that static display engine. Last cab I climbed in was an S1.
This one… http://www.asvrr.org/Photos/Engine5.jpg
Last year I picked up a brass HH1000 for $80
This year I felt the best deal of the show was a brass Tenshodo PRR 4-4-2 for $90
Did you guys see any other good deals? Most new stuff was WAY overpriced it seemed to me.
tom…that’s twice already we’ve missed each other!..we’re gonna have to quit being such strangers!..I was there until 11:30…LOL…I thought the show was great…NB is really getting huge…I remember the days when it was a small sleepy little German settlement and now it’s the size of a small city…chuck
there were some great deals…i picked up 8 accurail gons for $4 a piece, some atlas trucks for $4 a pair, kadee #5 couplers- (ten packages for $22)…I did over send on one item…it was an athearn Texas Northeastern RR box car that was $10…I just liked it so much that I bought it…also, almost bought a new AC4400 in SP speed lettering but I tried the engine out and the ditch lights didn’t work so i put it back on the shelf…there were some good deals there and as usual, some stuff was overpriced…chuck
cwclark, Man that layout that you took pictures looks like one of the better modular layouts that I’ve seen. It sound like it was a great meet. Oh, and that 1:1 scale that you climbed all over looks to me that it was an AC6000CW not a AC4400CW. That’s my guess, nevertheless, I’m sure it was great no matter what kind of engine it was.
