Soo Line GP30 #700 was the unit, shown here before repainting:
This is how it looks now, picture taken by David C. Schauer:

You wish you were here:
Looking down the long hood:
That flash scared the hell outta me let me tell ya ( BTW, I am not actually running the unit in this picture):
UPDATE:
Got some pictures through the fog yesterday:
THE HISTORY CAR. Brand newly repainted, IN HOUSE, by our amazing curator Mr. Gannon. It traveled the Iron Range last summer via BNSF and CN and tells the story of the Iron Range. It is now on display at the LSRM.
This locomotive is undergoing slow restoration. It is an ALCo RS-1 owned by the SLH&TS but is for all extensive purposes the LSRM’s. The paint on the cab is courtesy of Mr. Mackey. Our former Missabe supervisor and mechanical guru Mr. Fair, along with Mr. Mackey got it running for the annual SLH&TS convention, which happened to be in Duluth this year, but it can not yet move under
Too bad I didn’t get to take some pictures of Soo 700 when it was still in Horicon. I have been able to get a lot of other pictures, though. This is an ARR GP40-2, not running, fresh out of paint.
One of my favorite night photos ever is of SOO 700 parked next to the Superior Depot (dated 9/06). The photo is on www.RailPictures.net . If the WESTERN MARYLAND RAILWAY had bought GP30s, I believe they may have looked like this.
That was quite a night. Had a nice talk with the conductor and trainmaster for CP. I will have many more shots soon, once summer starts. Gettin a video camera, so gonna try to get some pics of all our engines runnin.
