PIKO Scale?

Hi, what scale are PIKO locos and rolling stock?

I run LGB 1:22.5 and before I buy any large scale PIKO would like to know what scale they are. I have 1 REA(Aristo-Craft) loco I understand is 1:29 scale and although is acceptable just looks a little out of place next to several LGB locos. I cannot find any reference to scale on the PIKO website.

Piko’s equipement is any scale from 1:22.5 to 1:32 and is standard gauge equipment. Piko makes there model look good and not sticking to the prototype’s dimensions. Average scale I would say would be probably be 1:29, but it varies model to model. - Peter

I’m assuming you are talking the American prototype stuff

Actually everything seems to be 1:32 except the caboose.

They have a number of the old MDC molds which were typically very accurate in 1:32.

Depends on the specific model (not unlike LGB, actually). Piko’s US-prototype stuff, as has been stated, came from the old MDC molds. Those are 1:32 except for for the caboose which is 1:24. Their European stuff is modeled after European standard gauge equipment, and are from all new molds. They took a page out of Aristo’s playbook, and “adjusted” the scale so the size of the equipment matched LGB’s etc. As such, it scales out in the neighborhood of 1:26. (European prototypes are generally smaller than US prototypes, so the models can be a slightly larger scale than models of US standard gauge stuff and still be the same physical size.)
