pilot coupler

I recently purchased a Broadway ltd. Blueline N&W Class A 2-6-6-4 loco. It has a swing out pilot coupler which is a dummy type. I would like to convert it to a working Kadee type functioning coupler so I can use this engine for double heading. Has anyone made this conversion? If so how? Harry D.Thank you in advance!

Welcome to the forums.

Go to the Kadee website, then go to conversions. You don’t want the list of what couplers for what cars, you want the section that shows you how to do conversions. Gives you a good description including any pieces you need to add or take out. It also tells you which coupler to use. If they don’t happen to list your loco, give them a call and see what they recommend.

I have several locos awaiting conversions, parts in place, time not yet.

Good luck,

Richard

Thank you Richard for your reply. I called Kadee and they did’t have an answer. I have not on the other hand checked their forum as you suggested. I will look in to it. I find it hard to believe no one has had this problem. These locos cost quite a bit and I’m kinda disappointed that Broadway Ltd. would not put a usable coupler on the pilot of an engine like this. I think the problem is that the N&W class A has a swing away pilot coupler. It swings to the side and a coupler cover {for lack of a better word] hides the coupler itself. Thanks again Richard!!

BLI has done the same thing with the M1a 4-8-2 also. Here is what Tony’s has done to the M1. This could possibly work for your loco.

Thank you Pete, It sure looks like I have my work cut out. For what you give for a DCC and sound loco you would think they would put a workable coupler on the pilot!!!

Harry

If you think about it ’ not many years ago none of the steamers produced had working couplers on their pilots just the Deeeesil’s
