You happen to live not too far from Joe Fugate, who has posted many times on this forum about doing scenery to an absolute “T”. The guy’s a past master. What you might want to do is look through the forum for some of his scenery articles. Also Aggrojones has posted some fine articles on the forum about building pine trees.

And remember, there are other kinds of evergreens along the Oregon coast. Don’t forget the Firs, which are a totally different kind of evergreen. But Joe Fugate covers them all VERY well in his posts.

Just use the search engine and look up either Fugate or Aggrojones, I think all of your questions will be answered really well.

Here’s the Aggro tree thread. A couple pics are missing, but you’ll get the idea.

Can’t find Joes “how to”.

I have Joe’s saved as a PDF. I guess we can’t attach files here, can we? If someone else doesn’t turn it up. I’ll post it somehow.

Step by step is a bit much at first. I make three suggestions.

  1. With Aggro’s trees, finish with a light dusting of Static grass applied with the Nock applicator. It makes a great fir tree.

  2. Use Caspia in a dowel for the big fir trees and pine trees. Apply the static grass to get a Douglas fir.

  3. Use Asstilbe Flowers, dried, and painted green to get the tall skinny pine trees.

We can talk more after you have read the great threads refered to here.

Scroll down a bit and you’ll find “Scenery Clinic”. Click on it. Clink on the link to page 3.

Try it and you’ll get some convincing conifers. Less is more.

Note that this is not the method he describes in his DVDs. In the DVDs he starts with bristles from a whisk broom and adds sisal rope for body. This makes an even better looking tree.
