Pioneer of micro-model railroading passes away
Wow, this is very sad news. I had pretty much put model railroading on hold until I discovered his website via an MR article introducing me to micro-layouts. He will be greatly missed.
I’ve often visited Carl’s website. His trackplans were innovative and provided a lot of operation in a very small space. I’m saddened by his passing. Our hobby has lost a true original.
I never met him, but I will miss him. My latest project is to build one of the designs from his Web site inside a 16x20 shadow box in HOn3 scale. It’s terrific fun to do these tiny layouts and Carl Arendt had an infectious enthusiasm for them.
I’m going to tune up the guitar and sing a railroad song in his honor; maybe “Wabash Cannonball” or “City of New Orleans”.
I was shocked and saddened as I read this, as I was a regular reader of his website, and found it quite an inspiration. I planned on creating a long thin layout just to stretch the definition of micro-layout.
May he rest in peace.
God bless Mr. Arendt and his family in their time of sorrow and loss.
Carl Arendt was a father to me even though I never met him. He inculcate me the desire to built a layout in a small space. I followed his advices from his book.
Dear Carl I’ll miss you.
God bless you and your family

It is hard to lose a leader, and a gentleman, who did not thing of himself only, but reached out to all who would share his enthusiasm.
