Sorry in advance if this is not the forum to ask, but can anyone tell me if it is practical (timewise) to travel from Pgh to SF? My daughter is getting married and everyone is flying out. I love trains and thought this would be a great trip, even if it took days. I could use some opinions if this would be a mistake! It’s got to be better than driving, or not?
Over night Pittsbugh-Chicago on The Capitol Limited. Three days-2 nights-Chicago-San Francisco on the California Zephyr. Scenery going West out of Denver can’t be beat. Expensive if you go sleeper. Go to Amtrak web site and you can plug in itinerary and see sample fares.
Took your advice and checked out Amtrak. The price wasn’t bad, but unfortunately, airlines basically double the price for one way tickets, and I won’t have the time to ride rail out and back. Thanks for your help! You never know, where theres a will, there’s usually a way!
Sounds like a good chance to ride a train-I would suggest you check out-round trip flight Pburg to Denver then round trip Amtrak to SF/Denver -just guessing it may fit your time constraints. At least to me, the Denver to SF thru the mountains would be the best part and you get to do it twice. A friend’s wife is a travel agent and I have seen her weave travel/deals that are amazing-it may cost a bit over you doing all the work but then it may be half as much because they have knowledge/deals us “civilians” never see-Good Luck.
