I decided today was the day, and internettrains.com was the place. I reviewed their policies, $7.99 3-10 day shipping, good prices, nice selection, so I went for it. I spent $60 on two Atlas Trainman Covered Hoppers in FMC chemical paint (I have one in the CSX paint), Walthers Cornerstone Yard Office Built-up, Blair line graffiti decals, and a five pack of scale mail-boxes. I thought it was an alright deal, I had some extra money on plastic, so I decided to spend it. I need some track and some other things for the layout in construction, along with foam (which will come from Hardman’s). I think I’ll save the rest for the LHS… Just thought I’d share, have a nice day!
I ordered a Micro Engineering bridge kit from them about 14 months ago, and had it within about five weeks. I hope it goes as well, or better, for you.
Welcome to the wonderful world of online ordering. I’m an old bugger but I’ve been doing it for years. Internettrains can be slow sometimes, but I really have had no real problem with them. I have no LHS near me so on-line is the easiest way for me to get what I want.
Well today was also the first time I shopped for trains. I ordered a NW2 V, B & O switcher with DCC/sound from BLI. They said I should have it no later than Wed. NOW I NEED TO GET SOME TRACK.
Let me know how that built up yard office looks. I’m thinking about buying one to put on my tiny layout. No real reason other than to possibly take out the depot which would just look silly in a modern aged layout that doesn’t have any passenger trains.
I still need to get my foam and paint as well. No real money for trains right now. I did spend $50 at the LHS on Saturday. They were having a 20% off sale on everything in the store so I figured I’d add a few things to my collection.
Online ordering I’m sure will come in due time, end of summer possibly.
I’ve only bought a few things online. I still get nervous if somebodies gonna rip me off or steal my info and clean my account out. I prefer to call the orders into the shop I deal with. That way I can find out if the stuffs REALLY in stock.
One of the credit cards I have is Discover. With an online accout with them you can get a special number for one sale only. Then when you make your online purchase you give the merchant that number. Also some sites are described as secure sites and will show a padlock or some other identification.
I know what you are talking about. I have a depot as well that was replaced with a manufacturing office and platform, and older one, Hejain (sp) I think. This yard office is going to go on my little 4 by 8 that is getting ready to get built. I love the Cornerstone series and haven’t been disappointed by it yet, but I’ll fill you in.
I’ve bought about 80% of my modeling goods online. Unfortunately my orders from internettrains.com had to be cancelled because they couldn’t fulfill the order. Other than that I haven’t had any problems.
I’ve been ordering over the internet for several years and have not had any problems with security or the orders. Just make sure you print out a copy of the order prior to exiting to verify your order when it arrives.
As for security, I’ve found 99.9% of hobbyists to be decent people and have never had problems in that area.
Product in stock is another thing.
To me, that’s always been the problem with most hobby related sites: they list everything in the world and carry none of it! When you place and order, they then desperately try to get the item from a distributor. If they do manage to get it (and often time they don’t) it means you wait weeks for your order.
At least there’s one place that only lists what it has in stock! [:)]
