I have a question. I was wondering, does anyone know any good, accessable(?) trainwatching spots in ST. Louis?
Perhaps if you used a better subject in your posting more would read it and possibly reply. “Places” could be anything, anywhere. Try again. Spell out the location too, not everyone may know what STL means.

And for anyone else who bites, I’d appreciate the same answer as it applies to DFW (Dallas Fort Worth with emphasis on Dallas because I’m closer to Dallas).

As a kid I used to railfan Lindenwood Yard, but I doubt if you can get near it in this Post 9-11 era. If you can get near it go for it. It’s a former Frisco yard (now BNSF). Should be lots of action there. I was last near there in about 1997 so I can’t speak to accessability.

Depends what you want mostly trains Valley Junction in East St. Louis is about the best, however its not safe, TRRA Madison yard would also fall into this category. Dupo(UP) is good for trains and for safety too. Missou wise- Lidenwood is nice. If you want towers Mitchell on the IL side and Gratiot in downtown STL are good. Make sure you go out to see the shortline CMRC @Lackland yard or the Granite City steel 44tonner at work.

I don’t know so much about Dallas areas, but in north Fort Worth to to main street in Saginaw just off of Loop 820. There BNSF Wichita Falls sub, BNSF Alliance sub, and UP Duncan sub all come togethere and you can see dozens of trains per day. There are great and varied industries alone that line in Saginaw, all within a block of main street, plus you have the north end of Saginaw yard, and just a mile or so south you can stand on the Meacham Street overpass over North Yard and watch the switching. I lived in this area for 3 years and fell in love with the railroading here, so much so that I am modeling it now.
