I am new to the forums, though I have been browsing them for a couple of months.
Since I live in the middle of Northwest Ohio (Somewhere near the little town of Ada), I have decided to try and visit a couple of local train watching spots and maybe take some pictures.
Here are the spots that I plan to see:
Deshler Ohio - Been there once for an hour and would like to stay for an afternoon.
Fostoria Ohio - Heard a lot about it and would like to see the depot.
Marion Ohio - Been past the depot a couple of time back when it was a local railfan shop.
Lima Ohio - Know of a good yard on Rob Avenue with a bridge over it and one other near the Mall.
If any one knows the frequencies of the yard or train operation that would be great. I am a ham radio operator and my handheld can get most frequencies for listening.
Also, any precautions or other good spots near my location would be helpful for later trips.
Any other tips or suggestions would be very helpful.
welcome to the forums! before coming up to Deshler check out a little town called leipsic.its where the ns (nkp) main crosses the north south csx(B&O) line.also ns crosses the I&O(former DT&I) the I&O has trackage rights on CSX from XN(south leipsic) to lima.Friday and saturday are good days to go to Deshler.there are people with scanners or laptops and sometimes you can have 4 trains on each section of the diamond waiting to go through.if you would like some pictures email me.look forward to seeing you.
Today is the big day. My mom and I have decided to head to Fostoria in the morning and then head to the Hancock County Fair in the afternoon. We will probably be at the depot in Fostoria.
I made it to Fostoria today from 11am to 12:37pm and took 21 photos of various rail operations at the depot. Found some other railfans there as well. More comments when photos are uploaded.
What is the best place to put the pictures on the web? In addition what size?
Thanks a bunch, my next time to go railfaning is possibly Labor Day.
check with your internet service provider. most offer free web space for your own web page. there are also alot of other free spots around too.as for emailing pics I usually go with the smaller size and limit the pics to about 6 or 7.that way its faster to download.matt and i will be in deshler sometime this weekend Im sure.good luck and good hunting.
It looks like I will be making it out to Deshler Ohio on Labor Day. I plan to take my camera and plenty of batteries. Looks like it will be a great day for pictures!
Pics will be in a separate album on webshots with a link after they are uploaded.
Still here at deshler. I think I saw it going on through. I will be here till about 3:30pm today. Then after I am home, I will get the pictures uploaded by Wednessday.
There has been some interesting rail traffic today.
