Planning ahead for structures

New shelf layout is 90% switching so I have a lot of space for industries. My scratch building days are over but I can still work with wood kits. I never did get the hang of plastic. I model the midwest prairies in 1949. I want at least one large industry such as an automobile factory. What is out there that I might kitbash for such buildings?

Bruce.

Nothing large here, however you might find a place for a few of these. Scroll down for pic’s.

Walthers has loads of brick structures which could be suitable, including some directly related to the auto industry, but all are plastic kits. [:(]

I pretty-well gave up on wood construction once well-done plastic structures became available. They’re generally much easier to build, more durable, and, in my opinion, even the ones representing a wooden structure look more realistic, when properly finished, than those made of wood - wood, in most cases, does not scale down very well, either in colour or texture.
Even if you’re more comfortable working with wood, I suggest that you give plastic another try. Using the proper tools and adhesives (usually an X-Acto knife and some solvent cement), you should be able to get good results with little difficulty.

The brick curtainwall structure centreframe is a pair of Walthers George Roberts Printing Plants kitbashed to suit on oddly-shaped building lot, while the structure to the right, Coffield Washer, is a Walthers kit, built pretty-much as intended, for an automobile stamping plant:

Here’s another stamping plant, combined with some leftovers from the first building, this time representing a knitting mill:
