After a long hiatus, I’m planning on building a new garden railway. I used to post on here quite frequently until about 2007 when I dismanteled my last Garden Railway and moved south.
Anyway, what I’m planning is to model the former Ulster & Delaware in the Catskill Mountains. Since most of my motive power fleet is Conrail and its predecessors, the era will be 1976.
I made a lo a loot of mistakes with my last garden railway. Namely having a lot of sharp curves and steep grades as well as having parts of it very difficult to access.
At at any rate, I’m looking forward to being on this forum again and being part of the community once more.
Welcome back! What size area will you be working with? I like the era you chose. Should be interesting to see. I hope you post pictures as you go along.
I’ve been on hiatus too, but my railroad still stands as it did for the last couple of years. I am eager for my sons and I to get it back to operating status.
Thanks! I’ll potentially be working in a 10’ x 15’ area, so it won’t be a huge layout. I had a rather extensive railroad the last time around and found time spent on maintenance and repairs started to outstrip time spent enjoying the railroad.
Actual construction won’t happen until at least 2017, but in the meantime I have motive power and rolling stock projects. I think my first order of business will be taking my Lehigh Valley GP38 and applying Conrail patches to it.
I am avoiding limited access and grades, but sharp curves are another story as I take on my 30 year project! Looking forward to learing from you as you return to the hobby.
