Planning to run DCC locomotive on my DC layout

I’m in the process this year to get several DCC locomotives, new cars, etc for my DC layout that has a 1970’s DC dual controller/transformer (Model Rectifier Corporation, Model 202UL made in Edison, NJ). I’m considering a Ditigtrax DCC system to replace the obsolete DC controller. I wonder if I could use the old DC controller to run just one DCC locomotive for a while till I have enough funds to order a new Ditigtrax DCC system in the summer 2010. Any advice? Thanks!

You should be okay to run the loco straight from the box. There is a setting on some decoders that do something on DC layouts, but I am not sure what it is. Just remember not to put a straight DC loco on a DCC layout.

Typical DCC decoders should run on pure DC. The loco will run differently. My DCC locomotive has sound, and when running in DC you have to go to 50% throttle before it even powers up. You have to switch direction after powering the throttle down. But it is usable.

Oh yeah … “reaton”, welcome to the forum.

Post back to this thread when you try out your DCC locomotive on your DC layout. And again when you have questions on installing your DCC system later in the year. Good luck!
