Planning Your Model Railroad

This is a must read for anyone planning to build a model railroad regardless of prototype, era, size, complexity, scale, or previous experience. By doing so and following Tony’s advice you will probably save a lot of time and money, and you will have a model railroad that will be satisfying and fun to operated and enjoy for a long time. I am in the process of planning a new layout and this book couldn’t have come at a better time.

A great guide for planning a model railroad either for a novice or an experienced modeler. Well worth the cost and will keep one in reading material for quite some time. I highly recommend this book as well as all Tony Koester’s books.

Much as I enjoy reading about Tony’s layout, I would have to say that John Armstrong’s legacy is safe. I’m not sure what purpose this book serves. Novices will be a bit confused by this book and advanced modelers may be disappointed by this book. This not a bad book. However; I’m not sure who would be best-served by it. Tony Koester is a great author and it is an interesting book for those of us that are somewhere between novice and advanced modeler.

Tony’s book helps refocus our planning process. He points out obvious and not so obvious items to consider when thinking through our reasons for building a model railroad.

Frank Hassler from North Dakota Tony’s book was interesting but not for me a come back modeler that was looking for ideas. Think maybe I ordered the wrong mag.

A well-written and inspiring book that truly demonstrates the philosophy of Tony Koester about model railroading. Very enjoyable reading. And, from an European perspective, with an inspirational focus on operations.
